Frequently asked questions

How do temporary lighting sessions work?

Choose a scene and 1–180 minutes in the menu bar panel, then Start session. The timer temporarily holds that software tone. End session and restore, or timer expiry, restores the previous colors only on connected displays that still have Nivora’s color table and original identity. New manual choices cancel the timer and keep your new lighting. A newer color table or replaced display is left untouched. Normal quit restores original colors, and relaunch never resumes a session. Only your preferred duration is saved. Daily rhythm waits until the next scheduled boundary after a session ends.

Can I customize the four scenes?

Yes. Open Settings → Scene tones to set separate Light and Warmth levels for Daylight, Steady, Dusk, and Cinema. Changes to the active scene apply immediately to available displays; the other scenes use their saved levels when selected. Reset scene tones returns all four to their defaults. These settings stay on your Mac.

Does Nivora change hardware brightness?

Light and Warmth adjust software display color only. Nivora does not control hardware backlight, contrast, monitor volume or input selection. Use your monitor or macOS controls for these settings.

Why is a display marked unavailable?

The software Light and Warmth sliders need a readable and writable display color table. Nivora marks unavailable software color control. Try waking or reconnecting the display; availability varies by Mac, screen and connection.

Which scenes does the schedule use?

The schedule uses Steady during your chosen daytime hours and Dusk outside them, with the Light and Warmth levels you saved for each. Daylight and Cinema remain available as manual choices.

What happens after I choose a scene manually?

While Nivora is running, a manual choice stays until the next scheduled switch when the schedule is on. With the schedule off, it stays until you change it, restore the display colors, or quit Nivora. A normal quit restores the software colors; reopening offers the last chosen scene without applying it automatically.

How do the keyboard shortcuts work?

You can optionally enable Control–Option–1 to 4 for the four scenes. A separate option enables Control–Option–Minus / Equals to adjust software Light in 5% steps, targeting either the display under the pointer or all available displays. These keys do not change hardware backlight. If either Light shortcut conflicts with another app, both Light shortcuts remain off until you resolve the conflict and retry.

Can Nivora open at login?

Yes. Turn on “Open Nivora at login” in Settings. If macOS requires approval, allow Nivora in System Settings → Login Items. Quitting normally restores software colors. With the daily schedule off, the next launch offers Continue for the last chosen scene; it does not apply that scene until you click.

How can I undo an adjustment?

An adjusted display offers “Restore this display” to undo its software color adjustment without changing other screens. The schedule stays on and may apply its next scene at the next transition. To restore all available screens and turn off the schedule, choose “Restore colors” in the menu bar panel or “Restore original display colors” in Settings. Both restore actions clear the remembered last scene, but do not erase saved scene tones or reset monitor hardware settings. Nivora preserves a newer color table written by another app and also attempts to restore its saved color tables when it quits normally.

Does Nivora need an account or network connection?

No. The controls and schedule work locally on your Mac. Nivora has no account, analytics, ads, or developer-operated network service.
